Well Summer has finally arrived (although, technically, it does not start for a couple of weeks). Please remember, during the hot weather, to send your child in with a hat and a full bottle of water.
We hope you enjoyed our last topic based on "Lila and the Secret of Rain". The children really enjoyed finding out about Africa, and all about our partner school at Kaphuka in Malawi. Thank you to those of you who shared work on Seesaw and their own experiences in Africa. The topic gave us lots of opportunities to explore drama and music. Towards the end of the half-term we also looked at some children's poems by famous authors including Michael Rosen and Roger McGough. The children looked at how poems are different from story writing and enjoyed reading, learning and reciting the poems. We, perhaps, regret creating a poem in praise of rain as it seemed to never stop raining in May!
In science we have been finding out some amazing facts about African animals - did you know that a group of rhinoceroses is called a crash? We also researched what the animals eat and found out which are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores.
We hope you will enjoy the topic this half-term which is based on the book "The Jolly Postman". We will be finding out about letters and post-offices and we will be writing to characters from traditional tales and fairy stories. If anyone knows the current whereabouts of Rumplestiltskin, please let us know!
Hello Owls and welcome to Year 1 .
A big thank you to all children, parents and carers who have helped to make it a smooth and stress free return to school in what are, still, very unusual times! Thank you everybody for following the social distancing guidelines and following the staggered start and pick up times. The children have all returned calm and settled and have soon got in the routines and working patterns of Year 1.
The children seem to be really enjoying our focus book, “Traction Man is Here!” and all the associated work about superheroes. We hope you will access this half-term’s learning link and work through some of the topic ideas with your child at home – we look forward to seeing your work an ideas towards the end of the half –term.
