Summer 1

This half term we have enjoyed reading the story Lila and the Secret of Rain. We discovered the story was set in Africa. Our favourite part of the topic was learning about African animals, did you know a group of rhinos is called a crash. We investigated what the animals eat and if they are carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. We found out about Kaphuka School our partner school in Malawi. We looked at the differences between Nightingale and Kaphuka school. It was fun making bridges out of different materials for the animals to cross Lake Malawi. We finished our topic by writing our own safari adventure stories.

At the end of this half term we enjoyed writing some poetry based on The Rhythm of the Train by Michael Rosen. We hope you enjoyed watching these on Seesaw.

In RE this half tern we looked at what we celebrate and how. We made posters together to show what we found out.

Spring update

Hello Doves

I can’t believe we are half way through the spring term already. You have been so busy completing home learning and we have enjoyed looking at your videos, photos and listening to your voice clips. Thank you to all your adults at home for supporting you with this learning. We have learnt so much about the moon this half term. You made some fantastic aliens, using different ways to cover and join the boxes together.

The snow was great fun and was enjoyed seeing your photos on Seesaw, we don’t get snow very often so it was important to enjoy every moment of it!

We have also had several Zoom sessions this half term. I enjoyed playing What’s in the Box, Bingo, Charades, Dressing up as book characters and many more activities with you.

Next half term we are learning about sea creatures.

Remember the more you practice the better you get.

Keep smiling Doves.

January update

Happy New Year Everyone! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Holiday. It is a strange start to the term with some of you learning at home and some of you in school but we will be using Seesaw to support you all in the best way we can.

I can’t believe how quickly the Autumn term went and how much the children learnt. They really enjoyed our Superhero topic. Making their own superhero mask was a particular favourite! We also learnt about ways to help our world. We discussed so many topics including looking after birds, litter, saving water and electricity. The children enjoyed making their own bird feeders and hanging them in the trees on the school field.

We took part in several extra-curricular activities including Crazy Hair Day, a movie afternoon in our pyjamas, Silly Sock Day for Anti-Bullying Week and Children in Need where we even got a mention from Joe Wicks!

Our topic this half term in based around a book called Man on the Moon. We are looking forward to teaching interesting moon facts and making aliens! Seeing the children’s home learning via Seesaw and interacting with them during Zoom meetings is a different way of teaching but one that keep us all safe. We hope to see you all soon.

Stay safe.

September Welcome

Welcome to Year 1.  We are the Doves!

Mrs Hart is our teacher and Mrs Kelly and Mrs Yallop are our Teaching Assistants.

In year one this half term we are learning about Superheros which is very exciting. So far we have painted a self portrait and then designed a superhero mask to go on it.

We will be reading the story of Traction Man and Supertato. There are lots of challenges to have a go at in year one, like labelling a superhero, making a superhero wristband and building a superhero lair.

We can't wait to share our learning with you!
