Summer 1 reflections
We would like to say a huge well done for a fantastic half term! Everyone settled back into the school routine really well!
We explored the story of ‘The Great Pet Sale’. Inside, we turned our role play area into a pet shop and outside we had lots of different animals. The children built cages for their pets and we had a pet picnic. We explored money in our pet shop, using different coins to pay for our items. We had writing opportunities too by writing shopping lists.
Then we focused on plants and growing through the stories ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and ‘Titch’. We talked about what plants needed to grow and planted our own beans! We built castles using different materials, both inside and out. The children drew some lovely castles too and we looked at different types. The children most enjoyed the castles with a moat! We discussed the choices that Jack made in the story and thought about if we would climb up the beanstalk.
When exploring our story ‘Titch’ we thought about how Titch always felt that his brother and sister seemed to have bigger and better toys than him! We made thought bubbles together, saying what we thought Titch would be thinking at different parts of the story. The children really enjoyed making pinwheels.
Please remember with the sunny weather to apply sun cream before school and bring a named sun hat.
We are really looking forwards to anther amazing half term of learning.
We hope everyone had a lovely Easter Holiday!
It was so lovely to welcome the children back to Wren Class before the Easter Holidays. The children enjoyed being back in the classroom, learning with their friends.
Lots of our learning was based around the book 'Croc and Bird'.
We looked at different eggs, using our observation skills to carefully draw them, thinking about the shape and colour. Then we thought about the different animals and creatures that might hatch out of the eggs!
The children were very creative and represented the characters from the story using different media and objects.
Some of the children used the Mobilo to make their own models of Croc and Bird.
We used feathers and patterned tissue paper to make crocodile and bird masks.
We also looked carefully at the shape and skin of crocodiles, drawing our own pictures.
For comic relief we had lots of fun dressing up as Superheroes!
In Maths we had the themes of finding half and sharing. We had lots of fun rolling out the playdough, making a shape and cutting them in half. There was also lots of fun had sharing the gems between the pirates - we had to make sure it was fair and they all had the same amount.
We are looking forward to another great half term of learning!
Happy New Year Everyone!
We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Holiday.
The Autumn Term went by so quickly! We learnt about lots of different celebrations – Bonfire Night, Diwali, Remembrance and of course Christmas. For all of the celebrations we explored how different people celebrate them and talked about how this might be the same or different to us. We also compared the different celebrations to see if they were celebrated in the same or different ways.
Following the children’s interests, we explored the musical instruments this half term. We extended our creativity by signing some of our favourite nursery rhymes as we played our instruments.
We took part in Odd Sock Day as part of Anty-Bullying Week. It was very funny to see everyone in odd socks. For Children in Need we dressed in our Pudsey ears, jumpers, socks and leggings with our sports kit and joined in with Joe Wicks. He even mentioned our school!
This half term we got to make full use of our school library. We looked at lots of different books and chose one to take home and enjoy with our families.
We had lots of fun with our Christmas activities. Our classroom Christmas tree was filled with our handmade decorations including paper chains, spiral Christmas trees and snowmen, we loved getting creative. We also enjoyed a Pyjama and Christmas Film afternoon. The Friends of Nightingale gave us a drink and a popcorn snack to enjoy with our film!
As the weather turned colder, we wrapped up warm to explore our outdoor area. We really enjoyed exploring the ice that has formed in different places and use used our big construction to make Santa’s sleigh. We even went outside in the snow one morning!
We are looking forward to our new topics this term and seeing all of your wonderful learning. Although we are currently remote learning we are very much enjoying your learning at home on Tapestry and we are really looking forward to seeing you all again soon.
What an amazing first half term we have had! It has been wonderful getting to know all the children and the children getting to know each other.
We have explored learning through the stories ‘Owl Babies’ and ‘Oliver Finds His Way’
We made our own owls using different materials, don’t they look amazing...
We have explored the changes that happen in Autumn, a particular favourite activity being sweeping up the leaves on the glade into a big pile and then running through them or jumping in them!
Horror Hair Day was very exciting and it was great to see everyone’s crazy hair! We made our own paper pumpkins. In the water tray we had cut up pumpkins and lots of creepy crawlies in purple water for potion making.
Welcome to Wren Class!
We have had an amazing start to the new school year! We have already had lots of fun together. We have learnt how to use the outdoor equipment safety, including the slide, sandpit, bikes and the hammock. You have all come into school brilliantly and we have very much enjoyed seeing your wonderful pictures and models.
We have discovered a new favourite story book, ‘Time for Bed Fred’, which Miss Wooff has very much enjoyed reading and hearing all of you laugh as you listen to the story.
We can’t wait to have more fun and learn lots of new things during the Autumn Term! Keep checking our class page for updates about what we have been doing at school.
